PirateQuesting is a Firefox Add-on created for the browser game PirateQuest. Development began in early 2008 following approval from FinalMotive (the publisher of PirateQuest). The earliest releases were little more than a plain gray XUL interface and simple javascript to do banking and training. Since then, however, the feature list has grown significantly while, hopefully, remaining easy to use.

PirateQuesting has been, and continues to be developed by an extremely small team — me. It really began as a way to make some of the more monotonous tasks in the game be a little less tiresome. The add-on doesn’t automate anything, it just provides a more convenient interface. The development of PirateQuesting started over in early 2009 as the codebase was becoming increasingly difficult to modify and extend. The 2.0 series is far more modular and however, admittedly, suffers from slower start-up time. PirateQuesting 2.0 came out of beta in September 2009.

Originally hosted on addons.mozilla.org, PirateQuesting is now hosted only here at pq.ashita.org as approval for public release on AMO simply never came. No refusal, just silence. Unsatisfied with the lack of a decent update option, updates are now managed here as well.

Due to frequent unannounced changes to the PQ webite, features that were functional often become broken. If you discover something broken or even just behaving unexpectedly, please leave a comment here or mail me at pqsidebar@ashita.org
